What is the purpose of a granulator?

Granulators are essentially rotary grinders that are used to grind scrap parts and melt delivery systems (sprues and runners) into feedstock sized granules for reprocessing.
How do I choose a granulator?
Choosing a granulator depends upon the material to be cut as well as its size, shape and thickness. The amount of material that needs to be granulated and how the regrind will be processed are also key considerations. The feed hopper must be evaluated for operator safety.
What are the advantages of granulators?

Produce uniform granules similar in size to virgin pellets, enabling regrind to go back into production. Reduce scrap down based on filter size (<1 in. up to 2 in.) to sell to recycler. Feeding back to production typically requires further granulation.
